N.Y. Post: Charles Wenzelberg

For the third time in four years, the Mets will finish under .500 and once again they likely will not be making the playoffs. Barring a miracle over the weekend, the Mets’ season will end after Sunday’s regular-season finale. It’s another season of an underachieving team that should be playing in October with the kind of lineup they have. To get into the disappointment and look ahead, we bring you a brand new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me.

Figgie and I open the show talking about the frustrations with the team finishing below .500 and somehow not making the playoffs. This team could not put together a winning streak and the starting pitching was a nightmare after Jacob deGrom. The Rays showed the Mets how much better they are in all facets of the game during the three-game series and why they are AL East winners, while the Mets will likely be golfing in a week. The Mets need to revamp their rotation and that could start with spending big money on Trevor Bauer to join deGrom in 2021. We also get into Sandy Alderson returning to the Mets as president of baseball operations. Is that role a good fit for him and can he and Steve Cohen mesh well together? We look ahead to an offseason of spending with Uncle Stevie and our future “Bye, Bye Brodie” musical podcast.

WFAN radio host Maggie Gray then joins the show. The “Moose & Maggie” co-host gets into the disappointments this season, some of the positives with the talent in the lineup and what the rotation could look like going forward. Are there any off-the-field concerns with Bauer coming to a big market like New York? Is David Peterson a lock for the 2021 rotation? Should Luis Rojas return next season? Does she like the return of Alderson? Gray also talks about a dream coming true in getting to host on WFAN, replacing Mike Francesa and the audience accepting her being a part of the crew.
