The Yankees turned their season around in September, going on a 10-game win streak, before losing Sunday. Despite the loss, the Yankees have clinched a playoff spot with seven games to go. It seems like almost a lock that they will take on the Twins in the first round of the playoffs. To talk about everything going on with the Bronx Bombers, we present a brand new episode of the “Pinstripe Pod” with Chris Shearn and Jeff Nelson.
The guys open the podcast getting into the Yankees putting it all together at the right time as their players got healthy. They look at this last week of the regular season still being meaningful baseball for the Yankees to get home-field advantage in the first round. They know the Twins very well in the postseason. Can the Twins get revenge this year? Nellie believes that Rocco Baldelli and the Twins want to face the Yankees and beat them this time. They get into how incredible Luke Voit has been this season and his sidekick DJ LeMahieu needing to be extended. They wrap up talking about how Aaron Boone should manage these final seven games. Shearn then holds up one of his Emmy Awards during the recording of the show before welcoming in his Emmy-winning colleague.
YES Network studio host Bob Lorenz, who has won 17 Emmy Awards himself, then joins the show. Lorenz talks about the pitching, J.A. Happ’s turnaround and when he should pitch in the playoffs, if there is any concern over Deivi Garcia and needing to start Aaron Judge in the outfield. They also get into the rotation moving forward, who might be back next season, matching up against the Twins and the importance of home-field advantage. Lorenz talks about his Emmy Awards, where he keeps them all and his favorite YES Network memories.
